Your privacy matters. Here's exactly what FreeRate collects — and what it doesn't.
Last updated: May 18, 2026Short version: FreeRate stores your settings locally on your device only. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. No accounts, no analytics, no tracking.
1. Information We Collect
FreeRate does not collect any personally identifiable information (PII). We do not require you to create an account or provide any personal details to use the Service.
2. Data Stored on Your Device
To improve your experience, FreeRate saves your calculator settings (such as currency, income goal, hours per day, and vacation weeks) in your browser's localStorage. This data:
- Never leaves your device.
- Is never transmitted to our servers or any third party.
- Can be cleared at any time by clearing your browser's site data.
- Is also used to cache exchange rate data for offline use.
3. Exchange Rate API
FreeRate fetches live currency exchange rates from ExchangeRate-API (exchangerate-api.com). When your browser makes this request:
- Your IP address is visible to ExchangeRate-API's servers as part of a standard HTTP request.
- No personal data beyond what is inherent in an HTTP request is sent.
- Refer to ExchangeRate-API's Privacy Policy for their data practices.
Fetched rates are cached locally for up to 24 hours to minimize external requests and enable offline functionality.
4. Cookies
FreeRate does not use cookies of any kind — advertising, session, or tracking.
5. Analytics and Tracking
We do not use Google Analytics, Meta Pixel, or any other analytics or behavioral tracking tool. No data about your usage of FreeRate is collected or sent to any third party.
6. Third-Party Content
FreeRate loads fonts from Google Fonts and the Tailwind CSS CDN. These requests may expose your IP address to Google and Cloudflare's servers as part of standard CDN delivery. We do not control their data practices.
7. Children's Privacy
FreeRate is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect any data from minors.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
